Until humanity really learns this lesson, we will keep erroneously searching for the hidden pot of gold in the wrong place, and keep repeating the problems we have been creating for centuries. There is so much change we need to create in order to make our world a better place and fix our problems.
This week I attended a webinar on 'Angel Investing'.
Angel investors are people who invest money in your business. It's an avenue for funding rather than going to a bank or other options for financial backing.
As I listened to the speakers talking, it was clear that the one and only interest and prerequisite of the investors was to have proof that your business would be financially profitable. All they were interested in was the 'bottom line'.
There was no talk whatsoever of whether your business was helpful to people or beneficial to humanity... whether it would make the world a better place... whether it would bring greater health and wellbeing...
The only thing the investors were interested in was 'will your business bring me a profitable (financial) return?'.
For years it seems, the sign of business success, and the economy at large, has been pinned to how much money and profit it makes. For some people, it's seen as the main marker of success.
Just today I heard a certain company made a $21 billion profit in 3 months*.
Many people would think this is a sure sign of success.
But did this endeavour really help the world?
Is this really what true success is about?
Does large amounts of money in your bank account mean you are a 'success' in life? Does it make you happy? Does it make the world a better place?
Whilst it's essential to have money to live, making money in itself is not a true sign of success.
This is a fact that sooner or later all people will come to learn.
Let's consider a different option.
In Ren Xue we say there are other more important signs of success, and we call them the '5 treasures of life'.
These 5 treasures are the real treasures we are seeking underneath all other seekings.
If you drill down beneath your desire for money, you will find what it is you are really looking for. And it's not about making money.
Underneath everything, at a fundamental level, we all want to feel happy, healthy, content, peaceful, joyful, fulfilled.
And money is not the answer to realizing these treasures (although having at least some money can help us do what we need to get find these treasures).
And here's the crunchline.
Until humanity really learns this lesson, we will keep erroneously searching for the hidden pot of gold in the wrong place, and keep repeating the problems we have been creating for centuries.
There is so much change we need to create in order to make our world a better place and fix our problems.
This change is needed at a fundamental level - we need to get to the roots of our problems, rather than just flailing around on the surface.
So far, humanity is not doing a great job of getting to the roots of problems. Very few people are interested in looking that deep.
But until we do so, we will keep creating and re-creating more and more problems, more and more suffering... until eventually there will be no other option than to change.
It is well known that once the pain of not changing becomes too strong, we will change, but often humans can tolerate exceedingly high levels of discomfort before they change.
The good news is, for those who are ready, we can start changing right now.
It just takes recognizing what the true problem is, and making changes at a fundamental level.
The fundamental problem for all of us, individually and collectively, is our unhealthy patterns of consciousness.
Unhealthy patterns drive all our thoughts, beliefs and actions.
Actions lead to results, either beneficial or harmful.
If you're ready to work on the roots of problems, rather than skimming along the surface, I invite you to join the growing number of people who are working to find and grow their 5 treasures of life.
Join the free weekly 'patterns recognition' classes and start to rediscover the real treasures of life.
